Mrs. Thorburn Whitehurst Minges died Friday, July 28, 2017 at her home.

A celebration of life service will be held Monday July 31st at 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, officiated by her pastor, Dr. William Neely, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. The family will have a private service in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Minges, a native of Pitt County, was the daughter of Jasper Randolph and Allie Pipkin Whitehurst. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended East Carolina Teacher's College. She married Jack, the love of her life in 1950 and they made their home in Greenville.

Mrs. Minges was a loving wife and mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She volunteered as a grade mother during the early years of her children's schooling. She lived a full life and enjoyed her summer home at Blounts Creek as well as traveling on family cruises. Mrs. Minges was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a faithful volunteer at Pandora's Box Thrift Shop. She attended Community Bible Study for many years. In addition she was an active member of the Delphian Book Club and German Club. She enjoyed playing cards with her many friends on a weekly basis for more than fifty years.

She will always be remembered for her warm smile, tender heart, and youthful complexion. Her gentle spirit and wisdom gave comfort and guidance to not only her family but also her friends.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Minges was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Minges, II, a sister, Loraine Whitehurst Gaylor and a brother, Norwood Pipkin Whitehurst. She is survived by daughters, Jackie Minges Taylor and husband, Donald; Laura Minges Greene and husband, Ronny; son, John Franklin Minges, III and wife, Sarah, all of Greenville; grandchildren, Allison Minges Taylor Eckstein and husband, Will, of Raleigh; Christy Taylor Cole and husband, Rodney, of Greenville; Michael Byron Greene and wife, Danielle, of Oakland, California, Carolyn Marie Greene of Greenville and Brian Miles Greene of Greenville; great grandchildren Taylor Rice Cole, Caroline Minges Cole, John "Jack" Louis Eckstein, Thomas William Eckstein, Wilson Lee Taylor Eckstein, and Riley James Catherine Greene; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Long Whitehurst of Greenville.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 30th, from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1400 S. Elm Street, Greenville, NC 27858 or The Jack Minges Unit of The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain, 621 West Fire Tower Road, Winterville, NC 28590.
