Elijah Hyatt was the son of Thomas and Susannah Hyatt. He was born between 1820-1823 in Somerset Co., PA.

He first married Maria Tissue around 1843. They had at least two children before Maria's death on 19 May 1847:
- Ross Hyatt (1843-1872)
- Sarah Ann Hyatt Kemp (1845-1931)

Elijah was soon remarried to Mary Ann Colborn. They had at least five children:
- James E. Hyatt (1847-1902)**
- Jesse C. Hyatt (1849-1917)
- Lydia L. Hyatt Liston Sands (1855-1931)
- Mary W. Hyatt Johnson (abt 1858-1898)
- Zelphia A. "Della" Hyatt Dodson (1864-1957)

Mary Ann died 06 Feb 1889, and Elijah married Hannah (Firestone) Hyatt Freeman on 20 Oct 1889 in Fayette Co., PA.

We know Elijah was at least alive until 06 Dec 1897. He is NOT the Eli Hyatt in the 1900 census for Brownsville, Fayette Co., PA. (Hannah and Simon Pletcher's marriage license application states that she had divorced her husband on 06 Dec 1897, so that must be Elijah.)

**I have listed James as the child of Elijah and Mary Ann Colborn, however, I had been unable to find a reliable record of his date of birth. The 1900 census gives his DOB as May 1848 - which would make him Elijah and Mary Ann's child. His grave marker gives his year of birth as 1874, which is clearly incorrect, but most likely has transposed numbers, making the year of his birth 1847 - which would probably make him the child of Elijah and Maria.

I have been unable to find a record of Elijah and Mary Ann's burial, but it is extremely likely that they are buried in Jersey Baptist Churchyard since their families are buried there and they lived in the area.
