Obituary
Eunice Emerich Hansen, age 95, a long-time Manitowoc resident passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 in Manitowoc. Eunice was born July 13, 1927 in Antigo, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Ernest and Alma (Forbes) Emerich.

Eunice graduated from Antigo High School in 1945 and attended Northland College and Superior State Teachers' College (now University of Wisconsin-Superior), where she earned a teaching degree. She began her teaching career in the Kiel Wisconsin school district where she taught kindergarten and met her future husband, Vernon Hansen. Eunice and Vern married on June 16, 1951 in Antigo.

Following their move to Manitowoc, Eunice taught kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary, Cleveland Elementary, Franklin, and Newtonburg schools, as well as being a substitute teacher, until her retirement in 1989.

A member of St. Paul's Methodist Church (now Lakeshore United Methodist Church) since 1952, Eunice served as Sunday School teacher and supervisor, choir member, church historian, and participated in the Women's Society of Christian Service.

After her retirement she volunteered at the Manitowoc Public Library and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with Vern in pursuit of family history. Eunice was a proud member of the Wisconsin Society of Mayflower Descendants, Daughters of the American Revolution, the AAUW, and the Manitowoc County Retired Educators.

Eunice will be lovingly missed by her three sons: John (Lori) Hansen, Davis, CA, James Hansen, Palm Springs, CA, and Peter (Martha) Hansen, Woodstock, IL; grandchildren Kari Hansen (Clara Perez), Vashon, WA, Susan and Ian Hansen, Woodstock; and many nieces and nephews.

Eunice was preceded in death by Vernon, her husband of 68-years; her sister Lenore (Frank) Charles and infant brother Robert. She is also preceded in death by three brothers-in-law and their wives: Lyman (Geraldine and Loretta) Hansen, Marcus (Didgie) Hansen, and Calvin (Violet) Hansen.

Funeral services will be held at the Lakeshore United Methodist Church on Friday, January 27, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am.
