Darrel Lynn Anderson, 75, Thomas resident, our father, returned home to his Heavenly Father and beloved wife on Friday, March 11, 2023, at Legacy Memory Care Taylorsville, Utah.

Darrel was born March 28, 1947, in Pocatello, Idaho to Joseph Curtis Anderson and Zelda Van Orden Anderson. He attended school in Pocatello, Idaho and graduated as a member of the second class from Highland High School in 1965.

Darrel served his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cumorah New York from 1966-1968. He was able to participate in the Hill Cumorah pageant two years and sing a solo on TV. However, the part Darrel always talked most about were the many lifelong friends he made.

Darrel then went on to continue his education at Brigham Young University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Music Education. He had many opportunities at BYU. He was able to go to Europe with the Acapella Choir, dance with the Ballroom Dance team, and attend many sporting events. He was an avid BYU sports fan. There was always a rivalry when his team played his wife's USU team in football.

He started teaching in the Rockland School District in 1973. He taught choir, band, art, and drama. The following year, he began teaching in Blackfoot. He taught choir and guitar. He didn't know how to play guitar, so every night he would teach himself the lesson for the following day. This turned into a lifelong career of private and class guitar lessons, in addition to choir and voice lessons.

While teaching in Blackfoot, he met another teacher named Paula Anderson. After knowing his sweetheart for 4 years and having a brief 3-month courtship, Darrel married his other half, Paula in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on July 14, 1978. He retired in 2004 to spend time with his beautiful wife and adorable grandchildren.

Darrel was able to touch many people through his music, his teaching, and his ability to never forget one of his students! Darrel was happiest when he was with his family, especially his "Sweet Lady." During his retirement, Darrel was able to serve in the Idaho Falls temple for 10 years with his wife. Upon his wife's death, he was able to spend some extra time with his daughters.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Most recently he served as music chorister in Sacrament Meeting where he magnified his calling for as long as his body would allow. Darrel's heart figuratively stopped beating when his beloved "Sweet Lady" passed away in July 2014. His children are grateful that their parents are finally reunited, holding hands, and resting their heads together again.

As a family, we would like to thank Legacy Memory Care Taylorsville and Canyon Home Care & Hospice for all of their love, help, and support during the closing time of his life. We would like to especially thank his "Coke dealer."

If you know Darrel, he would like us to tell you that he loves you and to always remember and never forget that.

We would like to invite anyone who sang with our father in his choirs, at church, or in the community to come join us in a pop-up song of "Goin' Home" during his funeral. All are welcome!

Darrel is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Lynne (James Dee) Broadbent of Kearns, Utah, Elizabeth Marie Anderson of Blackfoot, Idaho, Emily Michelle Anderson of Blackfoot, Idaho and a daughter of the heart, Mary Elizabeth Dye (Brian James) George; brother, Corey Joseph (Eileen) Anderson of Idaho Falls, Idaho and sister, Rhonda Denise Anderson of Pocatello, Idaho; and eight grandchildren, Jenna Kaye (Jacob Michael) De Arman, James "Paul" Broadbent, Katelyn Marie George, James William George, Aubrey Beth George, McKenzie Lyn George, Austin David George, and Lily Anne George.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and stillborn triplet daughters, Sarah, Christina and Rachel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Thomas LDS Church with Bishop Zac Fillmore of the Thomas 3rd Conducting. The family will meet with friends on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and again on Saturday at the church for an hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Riverside Thomas Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com (found online at the Hawker Funeral Home website 2 January 2024)
