Mary Virginia Lahne and Robert Eugene Campbell were married on March 13, 1955, in Uniontown, Indiana, according to an article published in the Seymour Daily Tribune (Seymour, Indiana) 24 March 1955, page 13.

Mrs. Mary V. ( Lahne) Sterling, 87, of Seymour passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Lutheran Community Home where she received excellent care during the last years of her life.

Mary was born in Seymour to the late Paul "Pete" and Faye Dailey Lahne. Mary graduated from Hayden High School in 1954. She married Robert Eugene Campbell, and together they had a son, Paul Douglas Campbell. She later married LeRoy Sterling in 1970. He passed away in 1999.

Mary was employed at GC Murphy and Dunlap Building Supply. She retired from Seymour Auto Supply where she worked as a bookkeeper.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed camping with her husband, mostly at Lake Monroe and Deer Creek, and attending sprint car races with her family and friends. She also enjoyed working in her flower beds, making crafts, and outing with her friends, Martha Sizemore (deceased) and Margo Brewer of Brownstown who has been a close friend for 60 years. Mary used her retirement years to volunteer through community groups. She especially supported ministries through her home church, Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a proud member of the "Apple Dumpling Gang," helping to prepare increasing numbers of apple dumplings for the annual Oktoberfest to support church missions.

Survivors include her son, Paul Douglas (Marlene) Campbell of Seymour, Indiana; two grandsons, Daniel Campbell of Hartford, Connecticut and Matthew Campbell of Seymour, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two infant sons; brothers, Richard and Paul Lahne; and sisters, Norma Jean Lahne, Marilyn Jane Lahne, Martha Storey, Marjorie Brackemyre, Maxine Wells, and Joyce Marie Phillips.

Memorial contributions can be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Hayden Historical Museum, or the community organization of the donor's choice.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 8, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery.
