COL Phineas Jones, Sr., Esq., was the son of Deacon Nathaniel Jones, Jr. (5 Apr 1707, Leicester, Worcester, MA - 15 Aug 1795 - Charlton, Worcester, MA) & his fourth wife, Eleanor Woodward (175737927).

In May 1778, Phineas Jones volunteered for seven months in CPT Lamb's CO, COL Wade's RGT, & marched to Rhode Island where the Regiment served with COL Shepherd's, COL Vose's, & the Black Regiment of the Continental Line under the command of GEN Sullivan. In Jul 1780, he volunteered for one month, on an alarm, under CPT Abijah Lamb's CO, COL Jacob Davis' RGT, & marched to Tiverton, RI. In Jul/Aug 1781, he volunteered for three months in CPT Reuben Davis' CO, COL Luke Drury's RGT, & marched to West Point.
