In 1852 only two years after coming to America, tragedy befell the family. Elisabethe died at the age of 37, leaving 5 young children. Cause of death and final resting place are not known. She was initially buried in a cemetery near a little brick church in or near East Liberty, PA. As the city grew, the remains of those buried there were moved to other cemeteries. By this time the rest of the family had moved on to Wisconsin, and although they were notified of the removal of the graves, they were too poor to do anything about it at the time. Thus, the family never knew where their mother's remains were ultimately interred.
