Samuel H. Forney passed away after a year-long battle with cancer on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the age of 78 with his family close at hand.

Sam was born on Sept. 18, 1934, in Hardin to Clay and Sylvia Forney. The family later moved to Carbon County where they ranched in Roberts. Sam graduated from Roberts High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force when he was assigned to Pepperrell Air Force Base in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. There, he met the love of his life, Patricia "Theresa" Forney. They were married for almost 56 years and had four children.

After more than 23 years, he retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant and started an electrician business, Forney's Electric. He found great joy in working alongside of, and teaching the electrician trade to, his two sons, who assisted in the business.

His greatest joys in life were dancing with Theresa, golfing with his cousin Bob and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When he retired, he spent several years with his wife traveling the country.

He is survived by his wife Theresa; daughter Arlene Forney; sons Ken (Brandee) Forney, Kevin (Kim) Forney; grandchildren Darcy, Bridget, Nick and Becky; five great-grandchildren, and brother, Morty Forney. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Michael; granddaughter, Christina Joann; brothers, Jack Forney, Robert Forney; and beloved sister, Dorothy Doty.

Special thanks to nurse Robin of Rocky Mountain Hospice.

A memorial funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laurel.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial donations to be sent to Special K Ranch or a charity of your choice.
