Norma Jean Winter passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the age of 87.

Norma was born in Pierce, OK on January 19, 1935, to Jim Lonzo Bittle and Bessie (Broadnax) Bittle. She attended Pierce elementary school, and graduated from Checotah High School in 1953, where she was elected Football Queen her sophomore year. She attended Oklahoma College for Women and graduated in 1957 with a BA in Chemistry. Norma worked as a research librarian at Jersey Production Research Company in Tulsa, OK from 1957 - 1960, and at Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, OK from 1960 - 1964.

Norma married William Kenneth Winter on March 22, 1963, and they were married for over 53 years until William's death in 2016. Norma was a long-time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, active in bible studies and women's circles, teaching Sunday School, managing the church library, and making Braille Bibles for overseas missions. She was active in the community, serving as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and participating in countless school activities with her daughters. She was a devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren who gave her much joy in her later years. Norma was always a kind listener, a thoughtful neighbor, and a fierce advocate for her loved ones. She will be very missed by all.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents, sister Ollie M. Carey, and brothers Jim A. Bittle, Robert L. Bittle, Donald R. Bittle, and Bill C. Bittle. She is survived by her daughters Dr. Billie Kae Winter (husband Dr. Joseph Casciari), and Nicki Lynn Winter (husband Tony LeClerc), grandchildren William Casciari and Anna Casciari, sisters Ina L. Bittle and Dr. Cheryl A. Bittle, sisters-in-law Dorothy Bittle and LaQuita Bittle, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends, and her beloved dog Benjie.

Memorials can be sent to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3700 Woodland Rd., Bartlesville, OK 74006 or Lutheran Braille Workers, 13471 California St., PO Box 5000, Yucaipa, CA 92399.

Visitation will be from 12-5 pm on Sunday, December 4th and the family will be receiving friends also on Sunday from 3-5 pm at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel in Bartlesville, OK. Services will be held on Monday, December 5th at 10 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor William J. Shupe officiating. A graveside service will be held in the future at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, WI. Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.
