Thomas C. Hilgendorf, age 87, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on November 11, 1935, in Portage, the son of Herbert and Nellie (Crawford) Hilgendorf. He married Deloris M. Griffin on June 1, 1957, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville. Tom was a member of the Portage Elks Lodge #675 and St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville. He had worked for The Milwaukee Road and Soo Line, retiring after 42 years.

He is survived by his wife, Deloris; their children, Theresa (Jeff) Wilson, Kay (James) Blankenheim, Thomas (Gigi) Hilgendorf and Nancy (Jerome) Kruse; his grandchildren, Rachel (Ross) Kaufman, Renee (Dan) Swanson, Jenalee Wilson (fiancé, Jordan Savor), Katie (Jason) Sommers, Jimmy Blankenheim (Sara Weber), Kelsey Blankenheim (fiancé, Garrett Lauth), Chelsey (Reid) Magnum, Nellie (Joe) Mueller, Tommy Kruse and Jeromy Kruse; his great-grandchildren, Luke Swanson, Leo Swanson, Grant Magnum, Drew Mueller, Logan Sommers and T.J. Savor; his siblings, Herb Hilgendorf, Dorothy Hanson, Bill Hilgendorf, Paul Hilgendorf and Margaret Hilgendorf; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Helen Hilgendorf and Marie Mullenbach.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl and Fr. Raymond Dischler concelebrating. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
