Jozef Edward Mlynarski is my great grandfather and was the first of nine children born to Michal Mlynarski and Zofia Szczerbowska. The children, except for the youngest and last, Michal, Junior, were born in Osweicim, Poland - - often referred to as Austria. The name of the town Osweicim translated into German is "Auschwitz."

Jozef's siblings were Johanna, Jadwiga, Rozia [Rozalia], Aleksander, Jakob, Zofia, Julian and Michal. There's documentation showing that Aleks, Jakob and Jozef did some traveling between Poland and the United States.

Jozef on the 1900 Census is single and shortly after June 1900 he met Maryanna Kaczorowska and they married on 12 February 1901 in Cook County, Chicago, Illinois. It was there that their children were born and raised: Leo Paul, Agnes Cecelia, Lillian Cathrine, Margaret Hedwig "Harriet", Florentine "Flo", Joseph Jr., Irene Julianna, Salomeja Zofia "Sally", and Harry.

Jozef was a self-taught violinist, along with being a Stage Magician and a tool and die maker. There are a number of family photos depicting Joe levitating a young woman on stage and pulling a rabbit out of hat. That lady being levitated is the daughter Loretta, from Jozef's sister, Johanna Poteracki. Jozef's granddaughter, Arlene, has told the story many times of him pulling coins out of the ears of the grandchildren. "Big Grampa" used to take me to the little market on the corner; he was about 73 at the time, and he and I would walk hand-in-hand, with me chattering away with my little-girl stories to tell him.

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." ♥ I love you Big Grampa ♥
