Services were conducted by Elder Kenneth Martin of Muleshoe and Elder Vernon Venable from the Primitive Baptist Church in Clovis. Burial was in Texico Cemetery directed by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
Mr. Leavell, a retired motel owner and operator, was born in Johnson county, Ark., November 10, 1889. He was a son of John Franklin and Paulina Leavell. He was married to Etta Chambless in Pope County, Ark., May 24, 1930. The family moved to Texico in 1932 and had made their home here since that time. Mr. Leavell was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his widow, Etta; two sons, Mark of Dallas, and Howard of Texico; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Crain of CeeVee, Tex.; three grandchildren, Freda and Monty Leavell of Texico, and Kevin Crain of CeeVee. One brother, Buster Leavell of Russellville, Ark.; and two sisters, Mrs. Olga Dillahunty of Ozark, Ark., and Mrs. Edna Chessar of Carlyle, Ark., also survive.
Serving as pallbearers were Aryle Crooks, R. E. Crooks, Joe Crain, John Guthals, Lester Norton and Walter Baldock. All friends of the family were listed as honorary pallbearers.
