VIOLET STONE DOBSON, 87, of Macclenny died Monday. She was a native of Baker County and widow of the late Elijah (Lige) Dobson, Jr. She had resided in Olustee, FL for over 50 years before moving to Macclenny 7 years ago.

She was a graduate of the University of Florida and had taught school in Baker County for 11 years and was a member of the Baker County School Board for 22 years, having the honor of being the first woman to enter politics in Baker County in 1938. She was a member of the first Baptist Church of Macclenny, the Baker County Retired Teachers Association and the Baker County Womans Club.

Survivors are 2 daughters, June D. Eberling of Jacksonville and Mary L. (Lillian) Finley of Melrose; sister Kathryn Ridley of Jacksonville; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church of Macclenny with Rev, Jack Plew, associate Pastor, officiating. Assisting will be Rev. George Chisholm.

Burial will be in South Prong Cemetery, So. of Sanderson, FL with Brinkley-Guerry Funeral Home of Macclenny in charge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Wed.
