David Glenwood Abbe Sr. passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023, in College Station, Texas. He was the oldest of six boys, being born on July 6, 1940, to Leo and Dorothy Abbe in Big Springs, Texas. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, minister and technician for Hobart. In his younger years, he drove 18 Wheelers cross country. David gave his life to the LORD in the mid-70's and was called to be a Baptist minister in east Texas. He continued to serve by performing several weddings in his later years. Up to four years ago, he served as the chaplain for Brazos County Sheriff's Department and would ride along and counsel deputies. He spent the last four years of his life at Fortress Nursing and Rehabilitation where he received excellent and loving care from the staff and administration. David was a veteran and was very proud of his service to his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Dorothy Abbe, brothers Dennis, Deryl and Dewey Abbe and most recently his loving wife of 28 years, Roxy Abbe who passed away March of 2022.

He is survived by children, David Abbe Jr. and wife Terri, Chris Abbe and wife Whitney, William Gray Ill and wife Angela, Mindy Smith and husband Mike, sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, brothers Danny Abbe and wife Kay of Robinson, Texas, Don Abbe and wife Glenda of North Carolina and a host of nieces and nephews.

A small family graveside service at Campbell Elrod Cemetery is pending.

The family wishes to extend our most gracious thanks to the administration and staff at Fortress Nursing and Rehabilitation that cared for our dad the last four years. We could not have asked for a better place and staff to treat him as their own family. A special thanks to Remarkable Hospice for the care given in his last days.
