Hillsborough
June Blume passed away peacefully on the evening of June 6, 2016, just one month shy of her 96th birthday.
She was born July 30, 1920 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and was raised in Colorado where she and her sister Edna (Billie) attended school. She relocated to Phoenix, AZ after marriage, and it was in Phoenix that her son Richard was born in 1945. The family eventually settled in Southern California, where Jene attended business school. Although Jene aspired to be an artist, she dedicated herself to a long career as an administrative assistant for a structural engineering company in Long Beach. It was through this employment that she met, and eventually married, Dr. John A. Blume, a noted Seismic Engineer.
Jene loved the arts, including singing and drawing. She and John enjoyed harmonizing together and listening to a variety of music, both live and recorded.
It was after her husband John was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, shortly after their marriage, that she became involved with Stanford's School of Medicine, through generous donations and personal interactions with doctors and staff. The John A. Blume Foundation funded, and continues to fund Parkinson's Disease research, as well as contributing to many Bay Area charities. Jene was the chairperson of the Blume Foundation until the time of her death.
Jene was preceded in death by her sister Edna (Billie) and her husband Dr. John A. Blume. She is survived by son Richard, grandchildren Hillary (Jeremy) McLaughlin and Dana Aleshire, and great-granddaughter Bridget.
The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to care manager Ann Liska, of Sage Eldercare, and caregivers Katrina, Rowena and Irma.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages charitable donations to fund Parkinson's Disease research.
