Marilyn Joyce Burkman, 80, of Princeton passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at OSF St. Frances in Peoria, surrounded by her loving family.
Marilyn was born in Spring Valley, IL. on December 5, 1942 to the late LeRoy and Marcella (Pinter) Husser. She was a graduate of Hall High School, Class of 1960. She married the late Dennis Burkman on August 26, 1962 at the Lutheran Church on the Hill.
She spent her life working the land with Dennis. Something they both loved. They worked together daily on the farm and raising their family. She loved spending time with her family and grandbabies.
Marilyn was very involved within her community, serving on several boards as well as being a dedicated volunteer. She was Leepertown Grade School Parents Club, Bureau County Home Community and ED association member and board member. She was a longtime supporter of 4-H, as a member, a 4-H Mom and a superintendent for foods projects with 4-H. She was a member of NFO, Leepertown Township Clerk, Leepertown Library Treasurer, Kids Klub Leader and Volunteer and a member of the First Congregational Church of Bureau, where she also held many positions with in the church.
Surviving her are her two children, a daughter, Colleen (Michael) Carlson of Malden, IL and one son, Keith (Paula) Burkman of Bureau, IL; four grandchildren, Emily Burkman, Nathan (Rachel) Burkman, Katie (Kiernan) Robinson, Jessica Carlson; one great grandchild, Noah Burkman; a sister Mona (Robert) Grubar and two brothers, DeWayne (Cathy) Husser and Dean (Mary) Husser.
Preceded in death by her husband Dennis Burkman and her parents, LeRoy and Marcella Husser.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Bureau or Bureau Fire Department.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Services for Marilyn will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the First Congregational Church of Bureau at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Bonnie Micheletti. Graveside services to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bureau.
