Adoniram Judson Clark was the son of Samuel and Livia Drusilla (Wellman) Clark. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Kate" (Getchins) Clark. He was a Civil War Union Army officer. After the war, he served as police chief in Newark, New Jersey.

Today a monument to his Battery, which bears his name, stands on the portion his unit occupied in the Gettysburg National Battlefield
