Nicholas was the third child of John Byron Fitch and Elizabeth Dott Dysart. Nick and his wife, Nedra, were the parents of five daughters.

Death takes Nicholas Fitch, schools food service head

Services for Nicholas L. Fitch, 62, food director for Phoenix Union High School, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Larry J. Melcher Mortuary's Chapel of the Roses, 43 S Stapley. Mr. Fitch, 637 E. Forge St., died Wednesday, April 28 in Mesa Lutheran Hospital. Prior to taking the Phoenix school system post, Fitch was food service director for Mesa schools. He and members of his family also operated the foods concession at Rendezvous Park during spring training games for many years. Born in Walla Walla, Wash., Mr. Fitch came to Arizona 49 years ago. A World War II veteran, he is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Mesa Elks Lodge 1781; the American Academy of Chefs; and is a past president of the Mesa Lions Club. Interment will be in Mesa Cemetery. Visitations will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today. Survivors include five daughters; a brother; a sister and 12 grandchildren.
