Leonard W. Kerr, 92, a longtime resident of County Route 39, passed away late Tuesday evening, May 23, 2023 at his home.

Leonard was born on December 19, 1930 in Fine, New York, the son of the late Emory and Muriel (Loucks) Kerr.

He was a graduate of Clifton-Fine Central School. He also took welding courses in Ogdensburg and achieved took courses at Canton ATC to become a certified EMT.

On November 15, 1951 he entered the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on November 2, 1953.

On January 24, 1952, he married Marie M. Julien at the rectory of Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. She predeceased him on February 3, 2023.

After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Leonard started working at Alcoa where he continued until 1958 when he went to work as a police officer with the Ogdensburg City Police Department for a short time. On July 1, 1959, he started in the security office with General Motors Central Foundry in Massena, retiring on September 1, 1986 as Sargent of Plant Security.

A devout Catholic throughout his life, Leonard was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church in Louisville and a member of the Knights of Columbus as both a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight. He deeply enjoyed gardening, farming, hunting, and pitching horseshoes. After their retirement, he and his late wife traveled extensively and spent six months of the year at their home in Ormond Beach, Florida. He cherished he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his children and their spouses, a son and wife of O'Brien, Florida; two sons and their wives of Louisville; a son and wife of Central Square; a daughter and husband of Keeseville; a daughter and husband of Norfolk; and a daughter and wife of Wellford, South Carolina; a daughter-in-law of Massena; a son-in-law of Louisville; and a chosen daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen of Louisville; 34 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was sadly predeceased by two sons, Patrick "Big Bird" Kerr and Christopher Kerr and his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Laurie Hollander; a chosen son, Bruce Ladison; a grandson, Chad Comins; a granddaughter, Amanda Kerr; his siblings, Lucy Recore, Lila Austin, Lowell Kerr, Llewlyn Kerr, Leland Kerr, Lawrence Kerr, and Laverne Wells; his half siblings, Lillian, Lester, Ruby, and Gloria.

Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ogdensburg.
