Sylvia Ann Springer was born in Fayette City, Pennsylvania on December 2, 1934 to Joseph R. and Martha Springer. She had one sibling Joseph E. Springer who proceeded her in death in 1988. Sylvia attended school in Pennsylvania until December of her freshman year when the family moved to Animas where her father was the School Superintendent and her mother taught grade school. Sylvia loved to play volleyball and tennis. She graduated from Animas High School in May of 1952 and married Willis (Wart) Walter on May 17th, 1952. They moved to the ranch. In December of that same year, Wart went into the army and Sylvia stayed with her parents, who had moved to Ohio where her Dad was the County Superintendent and her mother taught. Sylvia worked at Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio. Then moved with Wart to Ft. Smith, Arkansas and then to Ft. Eustis, Virginia. When Warts army obligation was done they returned to Animas in 1954.

In 1957 their first son, Randy was born, then 7 years later Bill in '64 and Warren in '65. At this time, they leased the home ranch and continued ranching, also bought 2 school buses from Stricklands and Sylvia drove for 38 years from Rodeo to Animas. They bought the Atkinson ranch and added on to the home place in the 70's. Sylvia has 6 grandchildren, Clay Walter, Darcy (Brandan) Bagwell, Corey (Olivia) Walter and Alex (Kayla) Walter, Amanda (Cody) Hendon and Cassie (Luke) DeLaGarza. Eleven Great grandchildren. Wart and Sylvia raised Amanda from the time she was 18 months old. Sylvia and Wart were married 60 years in 2012. Sylvia always took dinner to the ranches, helped in the corral and hauled water with the boys in the dry years. In 1967 they bought the family home in Animas and continued to repair and remodel it forever! Sylvia and Wart both graduated from Animas High School and all 3 of their sons and 5 of their grandchildren. In earlier years they supported the school and many activities and sports.

Pallbearers will be Freddy Eddington, Jim Walter, Rick Walter, Dalin Walter, Clay Walter and Brandan Bagwell. Honorary bearers are Denton Walter, Luke DeLaGarza, Cody Hendon, her grandchildren and close friends and neighbors.
