He was born in Allen county, Kentucky, Feb. 3, 1838, and at the time of his death was 77 years and 21 days old. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Company D, 27th Missouri Infantry.
Mr. Mayhew was married three times. First to Ellen Horner in Johnson county, Mo. To this union one child was born; both wife and child died years ago. In 1875 he was married to Zeralda White, and to this union four children were born, two of these survive the father, James A. Mayhew and Elizabeth Mayhew Brown.
In 1879 he was married to Rosa Killough and to this union three children were born, all of whom are still living, Paran P. Mayhew, J. Mayhew Welter and Alore A. Mayhew.
The body was brought to Perry last Sunday evening and on Monday at 10 o'clock, funeral services were held at the Robinson undertaking room, conducted by Rev. L. B. Pruitt, pastor of the M.E. church. Burial was made at the Williamstown cemetery." The Perry Mirror (Perry, Kansas), March 4, 1915
