John F. Kennedy and his Irish Immigrant wife Annie McCann were the parents BM1 Andrew H. Kennedy United States Coast Guard, a resident of Northeast Harbor, Hancock, Maine at the time of his passing from a long illness in Bar Harbor, Hancock, Maine. He was a member of the local I.O.O.F. Masons, Fire Department, and American Legion. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, he served in the Haiti Revolution, WWI, and WWII. For the last 18 years of his life he was Harbor Master of Northeast Harbor, Maine. Kennedy was Lighthouse Keeper at Boon Island Lighthouse 1925 – 1928, Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse: 1928 – 1929, Great Duck Island Lighthouse 1929 -1936, and Bear Island Lighthouse 1936 – 1946. On September 15, 1931, the fishing schooner Rita A. Viator struck rocks near the station with a heavy sea running. As the vessel was being pounded to pieces, Principal Keeper Andrew H. Kennedy and his two assistants, Earle E. Benson and Leverett S. Stanley, sprang into action and rescued the schooner's captain and crew. Secretary of Commerce Robert P. Lamont sent special letters of commendation recognizing the keepers' adherence "to the traditions of the Lighthouse Service." He was survived by his widow, Mae Park Green 1883-1970, of Northeast Harbor, ME, who was born to William Green and Mae Coughlin in Newburyport, MA. Andrew and his wife were married 26 Apr 1922 in Kittery, Maine. He was also survived by a sister of Fitchburg, MA, two brothers, one of Melrose, MA, another of Fort Lee, NJ, 19 nieces and nephews. Services were at Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert, Maine, Rev. James Belfontaine officiated. *Andrew H. Kennedy's Massachusetts birth record, and his published obituary, give an alternate birth date of 6 Jun 1900, the obit also states his age at death as 68, which would match the 1900 date given in the two sources. It is unclear at this time why his headstone bears the birth date Jan 5, 1893. His wife's birthdate is 5 Mar 1893, her birthdate on her headstone, it is also in conflict with other sources, such as their marriage record which gives her age as 29 in 1922, that would make her birth year 1893, not 1883, Andrew's age on the m. record is given as 24 which would make his birthdate 1898. Andrew H. Kennedy died on a Monday, the 17th of April 1967, Patriot's Day, a public holiday in the states of Maine and Massachusetts. Submitted Andrew H. Kennedy's bio to the manager of the memorial but his personal history was denied. Posting here to honor him as a US Marine and US Coast Guardsman. John and Annie were also the parents of William John 1897-1903, Henry 1901-1901 Twin, Edward J. 1901-1977 Twin, Mary K 1902-1935, Katherine A 1905-1985, William F. Healey Kennedy 1908-1984. John Francis Kennedy worked as a laborer in a felt mill and on a farm, he was widowed in 1909.
