WEST UNION - Clara Bland, 93, was escorted by angels to meet with friends and loved ones in glory from her home in Smithburg on Friday morning, January 12, 2007. She was one day short of her 94th birthday. Clara succumbed to Parkinson's disease and advanced age.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bland; her parents, Marion and Rebecca Vanscoy; a sister, Kathryn Vanscoy; a brother, Edward Vanscoy, and a nephew, David Vanscoy.
Clara, born and raised on Morgan's Run, attended Morgan's Run Church most of her life. She spent a portion of her life living in Canton, Ohio, where her husband worked. She loved to sew, garden and raise flowers. Clara will be sorely missed by her friends and neighbors.
Friends may call on Sunday, January 14, 2007, in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2007, in the funeral home chapel, with Reverend Haymond Plaugher officiating. Interment will follow in the Freeman Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

Uncle Roy & Aunt Clara had no children of their own but raised David VanScoy, her sister Kathryn's son.
