John Thomas Connor Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and accomplished lawyer, passed away on May 24, 2023, at the age of 81. He leaves behind a legacy of love, intellectual curiosity, and dedication to his family. John's presence and indomitable spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on June 16, 1941, in New York City, John was the son of Jack and Mary Connor. He grew up in a loving home and developed a strong sense of ambition and drive from an early age. John's pursuit of knowledge began at The Pingry School where he laid the foundation for his academic achievements. He then went on to attend Williams College where he graduated magna cum laude and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa. He continued to excel at Harvard Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor degree and met his wife, Susan Scholle Connor.

After completing his legal education, John started practicing law at Cravath, Swaine & Moore and then spent some time in government, including the U.S. Commerce Department, before embarking on a successful career as a corporate and international lawyer. His passion for politics and international affairs propelled him to contribute significantly to these fields. He became particularly fascinated with Russia and its transformation after the Soviet era. Leveraging his expertise, John ventured into entrepreneurship, founding several businesses in and related to Russia including the highly successful investment fund, Third Millennium Russia Fund. He was also a published author writing two books. John's love for politics extended beyond his professional endeavors. He actively participated in the Council on Foreign Relations and Democratic Party campaigns and events (especially in New Jersey), lending his insights and contributing to meaningful discussions on global affairs.

John was quick to laugh and sing and loved to tell stories. He was a member of several singing groups and even performed in Carnegie Hall. John would create his own songs with silly lyrics almost daily. Susan was the love of his life for 57 years. Their marriage was a testament to their unwavering commitment, common interests and shared experiences. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and travel. Whether it was traveling, sailing, playing tennis, or engaging in passionate discussions on history and politics, John cherished the time spent with his Susan. John was a devoted father to his three children, Seanna, Marin, and Josh. He adored his nine grandchildren, Madeline, Cole, Miles, Charlotte, Aisling, Olive, Lily, Jack, and Abby. John leaves behind his sons-in-law, Matthew Walter and Andrew Smith, whom he loved as sons, his brother, Geoffrey, wonderful nephews and their families, and countless cousins, and friends.

Living between the Palm Beaches, Florida, and Cotuit, Massachusetts, John was an esteemed member of various clubs including the Everglades Club, Chevy Chase Club, Wianno Club, Willowbend and Union Club.

John Thomas Connor jr. will forever be remembered as a remarkable individual with a contagious laugh. He never met a stranger and was eager to share all of his intellectual curiosities, from India to Russia to politics. John was a voracious reader and a perpetual student. His dedication to his passions will continue to inspire and guide those who were touched by his presence.

John will be remembered and celebrated by family and friends at Cotuit Federated Church in Cotuit, MA on July 1 at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Wianno Club in Osterville, MA from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers, John's family requests that you remember John by contributing to American Diabetes Association.
