She is preceded in death by her son, Ernest Arrington, sisters, Gracie Arrington Dean (Richard) and Eleanor Arrington, brother, Wendell Arrington, and fiancé Willie Donnell Powell.

Doris graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Doris was previously employed by Naval Station Norfolk Cleaners, Bon Air Cleaners, Albano Cleaners, and Food Lion. Doris was most recently employed by Norfolk Public Schools. Doris enjoyed fishing, watching Westerns, and the Dallas Cowboys.

She leaves to cherish her memory, five sisters: Sadie Arrington of Long Beach, California, Vernell Arrington, of Norfolk, Virginia, Brenda Banks (Dolphus) of Quincy, Florida, Teresa Arrington, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Katherine Arrington Wright of Chesapeake, Virginia, two brothers: Frederick Arrington (Linda) of North Las Vegas, Nevada, and James Arrington of Norfolk, Virginia, brother-in-law: Joseph C. Wright, Sr., two grandchildren: David, Arrington and Jessica Smalls, and daughter-in-law: Dorcas Smalls Arrington of Charleston, South Carolina, a special nephew: Richard Dean of Chesapeake, Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
