Arthur Dale Hilliard, Sr., 94, of 2313 E. 42nd Street, Des Moines, peacefully went home to the Lord on January 7, 2006.
Arthur was born June 23, 1911 in Oskaloosa to Mary and Lawrence Hilliard. He lived most of his adult life in Des Moines. He was an auto mechanic and owned Hilliard's Garage. He served with Company D.168 Inf. IOWA N.G. in 1931.
He was a member of Local #90 teamster (retired), the Salvation Army, and the Iowa State Sheriffs & Deputies Association Institute. Elder Sr. Pastor Arthur Hilliard retired from full time ministry at Full Gospel Center C.O.G.I.C. He also had Pastored at the Assembly of God. Arthur will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Verneta Hilliard. They have been married for 74 years. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Arthur (Dale) Hilliard, Jr., Charles (Sandra) Hilliard and Buck Hilliard, all of Des Moines; three daughters, LaDonna Heathcote of Des Moines, Mary (Donald) Woolsoncroft of Mitchellville and Pastor Ethel (Scott) Wright of Des Moines; 28 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Arthur was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Hilliard and Richard Hilliard.
