Elmer J. Kortemeyer, 82, of 502 Campbell Ave, died in his home of a heart ailment Monday afternoon.
Born June 29, 1884 at Schansville, Illinois, he was the son of William and Annie Wise Kortemeyer. He married Edna Yeager May 23, 1906 at Hazelton, residing there and at Eau Claire, Wisconsin prior to moving 47 years ago to Waterloo.
Mr. Kortemeyer was a public accountant prior to his retirement 10 years ago. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a 60-year member of Waterloo Lodge 05, AF&FM. He was also a member of El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids.
Surviving besides his widow are four sons, William of 335 Ivanhoe Road, John W of 215 Kingsley Ave., Richard C of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and E. J. Kortemeyer Jr. of 3104 Grand Blvd., Cedar Falls.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Erickson of Laramie, Wyoming and Mrs. Irma McCarty of Hollywood, Florida; two sisters Mrs. Motie Dawes of Independence and Mrs. M. E. George of McAllen, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home were friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
