A private graveside service for Evelyn Brooks Berzett, 88, of Athens was held at Athens City Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Berzett died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at her home. She was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Arthur Brooks and Ada Rice Brooks. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakdale Home Demonstration Club, Red Cross Auxiliary, Quilters Club and Eastern Star. Mrs. Berzett was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Berzett, and her son-in-law, H. Joe Johnson. She is survived by one daughter, Jackie B. Johnson of Athens; a granddaughter, Kimberly A. Johnson of Athens; and her pet dog, "Molly." Mrs. "B" will always be remembered for her sweet smile, helping hand and love for animals. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
