James Vernon "Jim" Lackey, 77, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed into glory on Monday, June 5, 2023. Born February 8, 1946, in Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Malcolm Vernon Lackey and Annie Fay Johnson Lackey.
Jim loved his country and served proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from November 4, 1965 to November 3, 1967. He retired from Nissan in 2007. To say he loved to hunt is an understatement. Turkey hunting was more than a hobby to him, it was a craft. And if there was anything Jim loved more than hunting itself, it was teaching younger people how to hunt. The tradition of hunting the eastern wild turkey will live on through numerous hunters thanks to Jim's efforts and passion. His faith in Christ brings his family the comfort of knowing where Jim has gone on to.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Wilma Dean Robson, Sherry Ann Heath, and Darlene Hart.
He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Mary Jane Lackey; daughter Mistie Lackey; sons James "Tony" (Melissa) Lackey and Frank Brandon Lackey; brother Terry (Susan) Lackey; grandchildren Lauren Elizabeth (T.J.) Garner and Justin O'Brien; great grandchildren Samuel and Kendrick Garner; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 8 pm on Thursday, June 8 at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, June 9 at 10. The family will welcome friends and visitors one hour prior to the funeral on Friday. Burial with military graveside honors will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
Spring Hill Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements for Mr. Lackey. A Landmark since 1785, "Where Nashville Comes to Remember."
