Ret. Lt. Col. Joseph P. Allen of the United States Army died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Peachtree Hospice(Sparks Regional Medical Center) in Fort Smith(Sebastian County), Arknasas. He lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Joseph was a member and past deacon of First Christian Church. In World War II, he proudly served his country as an officer of the 567th tank destroyers and participated at the Allied Invasion of Anzio, Italy. He also served proudly in the Korean Conflict. Joseph received many distinguished awards and received the Bronze Star.
He was a member of Post #31 of the American Legion and was a retired worker for AT&T.
He was proceded in death by his parents. Joseph is survived by his wife of 63 years: Dorothy (Gasaway)Allen; two daughters: Carolyn Milkert of Fort Smith; and Ginger Allen of Huntington, Arkansas; one son: Robert J. Allen Sr. of Fort Smith; 6 wonderful grandchildren and 5 precious great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:00a.m. at the First Christian Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Burial was held at Huntington Cemetery on Tuesday of that same day.
Pallbearers were the United States Armed Services.
