Edgar "Ed" McClendon Workman peacefully entered his eternal home on June 5, 2023 at the age of 96, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 13, 1927, in the farming community between Tulia and Kress, Texas. Ed was the youngest of four children born to Q.B. and Eunice Workman. He completed his education in Tulia, graduating from Tulia High School in 1944. In 1945, he answered the call of duty and served his country during World War II. Ed's commitment to service extended beyond the war, as he dedicated an additional nine years to the National Guard.
Following his military service, Ed pursued higher education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he obtained his BBA degree in 1951. Returning to Tulia after college, he joined his brother Bill and father Q.B. in their family business, Workman Machinery, which had been established in 1952. Even after the passing of his brother and father, Ed continued to operate the business until 1995, upholding the family legacy.
In 1957, Ed found the love of his life in Sylva (Sib) Lee Chandler, a fellow Tulia resident, and they embarked on a beautiful journey of 66 years of marriage. Their union was marked by unwavering devotion and selfless love, serving as a testament to the divine design of marriage. Together, they raised their two daughters, Becky and Jana, completing their family.
Ed's life exemplified his unwavering dedication to the Lord, his family, his church, and his community. He faithfully served as a Deacon and Elder in the Church of Christ. His love for Tulia led him to contribute in various ways, including serving as the president of the Kiwanis Club, delivering Meals on Wheels for the Senior Citizen Association, volunteering to read with children at the elementary school, and holding a position as a Tulia City Councilman for many years. Ed's remarkable service was recognized when he was honored as the Chamber of Commerce's Man of the Year in 2003 and later as Senior Citizen's Volunteer of the Year.
In his leisure time, Ed enjoyed playing golf and passionately supported Texas Tech sports, cheering for his beloved Raiders alongside Sib. They found joy in traveling and were always eager to embark on new adventures. Ed and Sib maintained an active lifestyle by regularly attending the Senior Citizens Center for lunch and actively participating in church activities. Known for his gentle and kind spirit, Ed touched the lives of all who knew him with his affectionate and easygoing nature. He loved his church, his family, and extended his kindness to others, leaving behind a beautiful legacy cherished by his loving family.
