Betty Jean Beck Connelly, 68, of Mt. Ulla, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Feb. 2, 1940 in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Bettie Jane Snider Beck and the late Walter Thomas "Tom" Beck Sr. She was educated in the Woodleaf Schools. Mrs. Connelly worked 21 years for Loeblein Brothers Furniture Co. retiring in 1982 due to disability. As a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, she served on numerous committees, as a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. She was active as a lay visitor and delivered Meals on Wheels in the Mt. Ulla community. She was well known for her loving spirit, caring heart and beautiful smile. She was preceded in death by brothers, Walter Thomas "WT" Beck Jr. and Joseph "Joe" Staley Beck and sister, Edith Vernell Beck Cartner Jones. Mrs. Connelly is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Calvin Connelly, whom she married June 7, 1959; sons, Jason Robert Connelly and wife, Angie Marsh Connelly, of Mt. Ulla, and Jacob Wayne Connelly and wife, Julie Hardister Connelly, of Concord; daughter, Gina Christine Connelly Bond and husband, Earl James Bond Jr., of Mt. Ulla; brother, Snider Burton Beck of Clayton, Ind.; sister, Tronia Dell Beck Gibson of Cooleemee; grandchildren, Joshua Bond and fiancee, Amber Hunt, Haley Bond, Mariah Bond, Ryan Connelly, Aidan Connelly and Elizabeth Connelly. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Mary Louise Sitton and Rev. Shirley Jones. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
