Mr. Saunders was married in 1867 to Mancy Reeves. To this union on son was born, George Saunders, of Eureka. His first wife lived but two years after the marriage.
Mr. Saunders was again married in March 1871 to Phoebe J. Harris. To this union three children were born, Mrs. J. Baker of Waverly, Kansas, and Vincent Saunders who died in infancy. The second wife died in 1893.
Mr. Saunders was married in 1894 to Mattie Strimple, who survives him. He also leaves a foster son, Estel Saunders, and fifteen grandchildren.
Mr. Saunders came to Kansas in 1884, settling on a farm in Coffey County. He moved to Greenwood County in 1899 and lived on a farm near Carroll until five years ago when he moved to Eureka.
During the Civil War Mr. Saunders was a soldier in the Confederate army, serving more than three years as a member of Co. C, 2nd Kentucky Infantry,
He has been a good citizen through all these years, a man of kindly disposition, beloved by family and friends.
The funeral service, conducted by Rev. L.R. South, was held at the Methodist Church Saturday, November 15th and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
