Born in Kentucky, died at Bryan, Texas 1933 around 78 years of age. Cause of death Hardening of the Arteries. As words handed down. He grew to be 6'6" tall. He moved to Texas around 1860.
Leander was called Jack, 'TEXAS JACK.' He was one of the legendary cowboys of Texas. He was a driver on the Chisholm Trail; a lawman around Bosque County, Texas; a saloonkeeper and later a leather craftsman making equipment for horseman of the era.
Leander Jack was once a sheriff in the Okla. Territory and caught a famous outlaw named Cactus Jack - as a young girl, Lina Jane Cox (daughter), had snook down to where they had him chained to an outside wall (no jail in town) to see him.
Leander was also noted as a good leather worker, making saddles, bridles, belts, hatbands, etc., reputed to be related to Belle Star.
It is so stated, that during one drive up the Chisholm Trail, Texas Jack removed the horns from a full grown long horn steer and attached them to a half grown calf. Then when they reached the Yards in Kansas, he won big money betting that the big horned cow was only a calf.
