Not sure why the headstone has June 8 when the obituaries have June 7. I'm going with the obituaries.

Elias Johnson Draper was the son of Jesse and Sarah (Johnston) Draper. He first married Sarah Elizabeth Hobaugh. After she died, he married Lydia (Malott) Hobaugh who shares the headstone with him. After her death, he twice married Laura Allison.

"ANOTHER PIONEER TAKEN.

Elias Johnson Draper had been among the enterprising Californans almost all the time since 1853, when he crossed the plains with cattle and the ox-team, with his family and some relatives including one brother.

He had lived in Santa Clara county and other parts of the State, before he came to the Kings River country about 1873. In fact he had returned to the east and remained a few years, then as most others do who have a taste of this climate and the many things which attract, he returned and remained till his death, which occurred June 7, 1914 at the home of his son, F[rancisco] A[mericus] Draper, three miles west of Kingsburg. E. J. Draper was born in Vandalia, Wayne Co. Ind. August 21, 1830. In 1851 he married Miss Elizabeth Hobaugh, and to them were born three children, Theodore, Frank and Sarah. She died June 8, 1857, leaving these three small children. She had made the journey with him across the plains and returned with his [him] via Panama. In 1858 Mr. Draper was married to Mrs. Lydia Hobaugh [Lydia Malott married George Washington Hobaugh in 1852], who had one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Harlan [Lucy Irene Hobaugh married Elisha Harlan], of Laton. Mr. Draper was well known in Kingsburg and Fresno county, and was soon made Justice of the Peace here after his coming to this place, indeed, his brother Silas, laid off the town of Kingsburg. E. J. Draper is remembered as the proprietor of the "Temperance Hotel" in Kingsburg, when temperance was not so popular as it is now. The funeral service was held at the M.E. church, South, where he and many of the family have held their membership, during the past thrity-nine years. He was buried at the Kingsburg Cemetery June 9, 1914.
