St. George, Utah –

If there's a See's Candies in heaven, Karelyn Penrod Adams has found it by now. Our Mom, Grandma, Gigi, Oma passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023, in St. George, Utah and has been reunited with her husband, LaVere, her partner for 63 years, and they're likely singing songs, playing games and organizing some kind of heavenly party with the best food ever. Probably fudge. Definitely fudge.

Karelyn was born to Grant Forsyth Penrod and Elma Osguthorpe Penrod on July 23, 1936 and raised in Provo, UT with her brother, Gary. She met LaVere there while they both attended BYU. They started their family and moved to Hayward, CA and then to Pleasanton, CA where they lived for 51 years.

With all of her earthly accomplishments, her greatest was her family. Her children, Jeff (Tammy), Darin (Kristi), Michelle Belliston (Doug), Camilyn Hanson (Jay), Cherise Oleson (Mark) along with 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren carry her legacy of service, generosity and love.

She was a masterful teacher, teaching elementary school for 26 years and earning the district's Teacher of the Year award. Decades later, her students can still recall their experience being in her class.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a mission in Laie, HI after her retirement. She served in many callings, her favorite was Primary President, teaching young children. She even held that position well into her 70s.

She was an amazing party-thrower. She loved making you feel loved and fed. She could make anything, but candies and treats were always her forte. Did we mention the fudge?

When she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, and LaVere suffered a stroke, they moved in with their daughter, Michelle, in St. George, UT in 2021. She was cared for by many, especially her nearly constant companion and See's and Costco shopping buddy, Terri Lund. While there, she always had a box of See's chocolates within arm's reach.

Jeff -
My mother Karelyn Penrod Adams left this Earth on Wednesday. I shall miss her very much. Everything I am or ever was is because of Mom. She was a wonderful teacher and always encouraged all of us kids to excel.

Cami -
My mom taught me to love others. She was the best party thrower. She supported me in everything I did and was the best cheerleader for my girls. She was always baking something yummy and sharing it with others. She shared her love of shopping with me, and I have great memories of going together to Stoneridge Mall every Black Friday to start our Christmas shopping. (I say start, but I think she already had most of her Christmas shopping done by then.)
Most importantly, I always knew she loved our Savior. She lived a life of Christlike service to others.
I'm glad she and my dad have been reunited. I'm sure my dad had the best party planned to greet her.

Cherise -
As hard as it is to say goodbye, I feel joy and peace in knowing that my parents are reunited again... until we meet again, I will miss you, Mom.
