Dorothy Ruth Cutter, age 87 died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, June 11, 2023. She was born on February 19, 1936, in Somerville, MA to Gordon and Ruth Honey.
Dorothy married James Cutter on July 30, 1955, and they started their life together in Peabody, MA. They moved with their first born to Danbury, CT, where they had another son and two daughters. The family moved to Sandstone, MN and then on to Terre Haute, where they made their home for the past 53 years.
Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of MMAP where she traveled with her husband in their motorhome volunteering on building projects and camping with friends along the way. Dorothy was a longtime member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir, served as a deaconess, taught Sunday School and helped prepare meals for special occasions. Her passions were sewing, singing, knitting, reading, making crafts and cooking for her family. Her legacy as a peacemaker will live on forever. She was known for her loved of God and family, and her warm smile and kindness affected everyone she met.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, James C. Cutter; four children, Kenneth (Cindy) Cutter of Terre Haute, Stephen (Laura) Cutter of Tell City, IN, Karen (William) Davis of Terre Haute, Rhonda (Scott) Stevens of Terre Haute; two sisters, Beverly Finnegan of Gilford, NH and Judy Wallace of Saugus, MA; a brother, David (Betty) Honey of Amesbury, MA; eleven grandchildren, Jamie (Robert) Guillaume, Crystal (Jared) Dougherty, Jennifer Zeitlow, Julie (Terance) Smith, Scott (Heather) Templeton, Ryan (Maryann) Davis, Kensie (Adam) Conner, Mathew Conder, Kristen (Jacob) Harrison, Brooke Templeton, Michelle Conder; and twenty two great-grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Malcolm Conder Jr.; grandson, Michael Conder and brother-in-laws, Frank Finnegan and Dick Wallace.
Dorothy's family would like to thank all the helpers at Hands that Serve and Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided Dorothy during her illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 11 AM at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 Lafayette Avenue, with Pastor Adam Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
