Monday, February 25th, 1929 - Tuesday, June 13th, 2023
Elizabeth Spalding Abell, treasured mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the age of 94. Betty Jo, as she was known, was a woman fiercely devoted to her family and guided by her faith. Known for her lively discussions, applesauce raisin cake, and "Grandma cookies," no family gathering will have quite the same flavor without her.
She could be found having coffee with her sisters, around a big table eating crabs with her family, or playing countless hours of card games, giving everyone memories of her that will always bring a smile. She leaves a legacy of showing love and care to family and friends. The light in her eyes when her smile was directed just at you, her tight hugs that always made you feel special, and the one-on-one moments she shared with each person will always remind us that we can show each person their value.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Spencer, parents F. Xavier and Elizabeth Spalding, brothers James, Francis, Samuel, Joseph, and George, sisters Helen and Mary Jean.
She is survived by her sisters Katherine Spalding and Susan Miedzinski, children Cathy (Blair) Gallihugh, Alex (Sara) Abell, and Janet (Eddie) Sarbacher, as well as seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.
