Dolores Jean (Field) Abel-Johnson, 91, a resident of New River, Arizona, passed away Monday,
June 5, 2023 at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona after a brief illness.
Dolores was born November 14,1931, in Charles City, Iowa. She was the eldest daughter of
Emory and Florence Field. Dolores attended country school and graduated from Charles City
High School in 1949. She married Vern F. Abel in 1950 and had four children: Bonnie, Dennis,
Janette and Kim. They lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa where they later divorced. She also lived in
Texas and Arizona, finally residing with her daughter, Kim, in New River, Arizona for the last 28
years. For a portion of her life, Dolores worked as a waitress at Frank's Pantry and Sylvia's in Fort Dodge, Iowa, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a big collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, antiques, Beanie Babies and more while initiating many life-long collections for family along the way.

Dolores was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Glendale, Arizona. She loved listening
to country, polka and gospel music. She spent hours in her many gardens over the years and
could often be seen raking, watering and planting beautiful flowers, along with adding garden
statues and solar lights to help beautify her special spaces. She loved dancing, cooking, baking
and decorating for the holidays. Dolores was a kind, witty and fun soul who loved spending time with her family, playing cards and loving her dogs. She supported many good causes including animal rescues, faith and military organizations and the World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dolores will be greatly missed by: children Bonnie Grawey (Denny O'Leary) of DeSoto, Iowa,
Janette Abel and Kim Abel of New River, Arizona; grandchildren Jamie (Jim) Wilber of Peoria,
Arizona, Stephanie (Shawn) Abel-Hohenzy of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jerome Latimer of New River,
Arizona, Bryanne Huebsch (John Cacy) of Surprise, Arizona and Brandon (Julie) Huebsch of
Buckeye, Arizona; great-grandchildren Kaelen and Hailee Wilber, Cole and Adeline Cacy, and
Taela and Morgan Huebsch; sisters Dianne Harrold of Charles City, Iowa, Dixie (Jack) Dunagan
of Mason City, Iowa, Debbie Gitch of Sumner, Iowa and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was also a step-grandmother to Christie (Gruber) Swanson and Joshua Gruber.
Dolores was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Abel; her parents, Emory and Florence
Field; sisters, Darlene Lyman and Donna Stewart; and beloved pets, Harley, Lacey and Gizzy.

Services for Dolores will be held at Gunderson Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Tuesday,
June 27 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation an hour before starting at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at North Lawn Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorials can be directed to the family at: 44640 N. 10th St. New River, Arizona 85087
