"Wolcott - The funeral of Mrs. Albert J. Hovey, whose death was briefly mentioned in last week's second edition, was held from the home of the Misses Cornelia and Sue G. Crasts, at 2 p. m. Saturday, after which the remains were taken to the Lyons Rural cemetery and there interred in the Hovey family plot. Mrs. Hovey was formerly Miss Clara Dutton, only daughter of the late Colonel William E. and Lucy L. Mathews Dutton She was born in the family homestead in Huron, now the O. M. Smith place ), May 29, 1857, her age at death being 79 years, 3 months and 18 days. Mrs. Hovey was for many years the art director at Mt. Carroll's seminary, Mt. Carroll, Illinois, having fitted herself for this work at the Oswego Normal school and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She married Mr. Hovey on Jan. 26, 1899 , and the remainder of her life was spent largely at her old home and in this village. Mrs. Hovey was the last survivor of her family, her parents and three brothers all being dead and without descendants. Her husband, who is 87 years of age and in feeble health, is survived by one sister, Mrs. R. A. Porter of Patchogue, Long Island, much his junior, who is ill at the present time. She was unable to attend the funeral but wrote that she hoped to be better in a few days and would then come here to make arrangements for brother's care. He is at present at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kasson, where he will remain at least until his sister arrives. Despite his age, illness and bereavement, he is bearing up remarkably well considering the shock of his wife's death." (Sep. 24, 1936, The Lake Shore News of Wolcott, NY)
