He went to school in Ford City, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Army from 1973 to 1977, Military Police Detachment, Camp Zama, Japan. While serving, Al completed the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and two Army Good Conduct Medals, earning the rank of E-5 (SGT).
After serving in the military, he worked security detail for the Colorado Springs Broadmoor Hotel. He then served with distinction and honor as a Deputy Sheriff for the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, El Paso County, Colorado for 32 years. He was awarded a Life Saving Medal, Achievement Award, and Leadership Award and retired at the rank of Bureau Chief. After his retirement he worked as an evidence technician at the impound lot for the Colorado Springs Police Department for 8 years.
Allen was an avid fisherman and a member of the Catholic church. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with family, and reading. He was also a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed watching sports. Allen honorably served his county and bravely protected his community and family.
Allen is survived by his wife, Carla of 37 years; son, Jared; three daughters, Laura, Emma, and Jenna; siblings, Paul and Paula; and multiples nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
