From the Wednesday, June 25, 2003 edition of THE OBERLIN HERALD
James Stewart flew 15 missions as a B-24 pilot in Europe and 13 missions over Asia as a B-17 pilot with Lt. Mark R. Cleland of Oberlin as his bombardier. Mark was a cousin of Rodney New of Norcatur, and Janice Underwood of Denver. When the B-29 became available, Capt. Stewart was assigned to pilot a B-29, and on Mark’s next flight, his B-17 was shot down over the Himalayan Mountains and his body was never recovered.

(Side note, I am thinking that the James Stewart listed above is Jimmy Stewart the actor.

Researched by Wilma Fineberg. Mark is my 2nd cousin one removed. We share a common "Grandfather", Daniel Logan from Ireland. Rest in peace brave soldier.
