First came to the US at 21 years of age but went back to Scotland for a year. When he came back he was first in the mining area of Hancock, Houghton Co., MI and then was in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1877. He went back to Michigan in 1879 and married his wife. They settled in Lead, Lawrence Co., South Dakota though he traveled to Austalia and Colorado for mining business. He died of typhoid fever.
