HEALDTON Services for Jack D. Roberts, 85, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Dixie Cemetery, Ringling.

Born March 4, 1923, in Dundee to John Hayden and Sara Alice Roberts, Jack passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at the Ardmore Veterans Center. Jack married Willie Fern Kinsey on Feb. 22, 1947, in Foard County, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, David Roberts; a brother, Choc Roberts; three sisters, Ethel Bull, Mary Jo Hogue and Corene Miller; two granddaughters, Tiffani Mashore Fleehart and Summer Fern Roberts; and a great-granddaughter, Kennedy.

Jack attended school in Dundee and was active in boxing, an avid horseman and a cowboy. He was a private in the Navy, trained in diving and served during World War II in Samoa. During his tour, Jack was a teletype operator and machinist mate. He also boxed while in the Navy. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and later raised a family in the Wirt and Dundee area before moving to Quanah, Texas in 1974. He moved to Ringling in 2002.

Survivors include one son, William "Bill" Roberts and his wife, Connie, Palestine, Texas; two daughters, Margaret Martin and her husband, Rob, Edmond, and Jackie Brooks and her husband, Joe, Lone Grove; three brothers, Jake Roberts, Dundee, Gerald Roberts, Fox, and Johnny Roberts, Ringling; one sister, Stella Tartar, Dundee; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 at Roberts Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.robertsfuneralhomes.us.
