Mary Ellen V. Schnelle, 92, of Cleveland, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Sheboygan Senior Community. She was born June 19, 1931 in Newton, WI daughter to the late Arthur and Hertha (Wippermann) Lorfeld. She attended Spring Valley grade school and St. James United Church of Christ where she was baptized and confirmed. She also sang in the church choir and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a 1949 graduate of Kiel High School.

On May 31, 1952 she was united in marriage to Lloyd E. Schnelle at St. James UCC Spring Valley. They met at Tourist Inn where their love of polka dancing began, which they thoroughly enjoyed throughout their lives. They attended many polka events and never went home until the last song was played. You would often catch Mary Ellen dancing in the kitchen while listening to the Jerry Schneider show on the radio.

They resided on the home farm near Millhome for 13 years. In 1965, they moved to Cleveland where they operated the Wagner farm and apple orchard. Mary Ellen was a devoted farm wife. She loved the farm, working alongside Lloyd and her family. She enjoyed serving their apple customers along with working in the gardens. During that time, she also served as an election official in the Town of Mosel for 12 years. The couple shared 48 wonderful years of marriage before Lloyd preceded her in death in 2001.

Her family filled her heart with pride, joy and love. The family gatherings as well as the many visits of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all lived nearby, were very special to her and were her most cherished times. She and Lloyd enjoyed attending many of their music programs, sporting events and cattle shows. They enjoyed many bus trips and visiting relatives in neighboring states. Time spent with her cousins and special friendships she made were never taken for granted. Her love of writing letters to family and friends were enjoyed by many. Her children and their families will always be grateful to Mary Ellen for her selflessness, her faith in God, her generosity and positive outlook. Mary Ellen will always be remembered for her warmth and gentle kindness.

Survivors include four sons; Gerald (Doris) Schnelle Jack (Wendy) Schnelle, Gene (Sarah) Schnelle all of Cleveland, Jay (Dawn) Schnelle of Howards Grove, one daughter; Julie (Jon) Herrmann of Cleveland, and one daughter in law; Chris Schnelle of Cleveland.
