Sgt. William E. Richter, 23, of Ft. Knox, Ky., formerly of Springfield, died at Illinois Masonic Hospital at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Chicago.

Sgt. Richter enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and served two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart while serving his country.

He leaves his mother, Mrs. Eileen Davidson of Jackson, Miss.; two brothers, Randolph Lloyd of Madison, Wisc., and David Lloyd of Jackson, Miss.; one sister, Mrs. Carol McGonigle of Decatur.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bisch Memorial Home with a military chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military rites at graveside.
