Evelyn M. Fowles, age 103 of McHenry passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, with family by her side. She was born in Wauconda, IL on May 31, 1920, to the late John and Anna (Stilling) Brown. She was raised on the family farm in Wauconda.
Evelyn loved going to dances, where she met her husband, Reginald (Jack) Fowles. They married on November 21, 1942, at Transfiguration Church, Wauconda. Together they raised four children, Carol (Duane Christensen & Mick Lincoln) Lincoln, Thomas (Marilyn) Fowles, Kathleen (Albert) Martinucci, and Michael (Susan) Fowles. They were blessed with 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
While raising the children, Mom was busy at church, working at various part time jobs, sewing, had a large garden, and even made a large tent so we all could go camping.
Her hobbies included square dancing, fishing with Jack, playing cards with family and friends, and she was a great cribbage player.
After retirement Evelyn and Jack did a lot of traveling, visiting relatives in England and a six week tour of Europe. Eventually they bought a camper and visited many of the states, finally deciding on dividing their time between Tucson and Illinois.
In 2018 she moved to Randall Residence in McHenry, IL where she took part in many activities until her death. She made many new friends there including some special staff members who took excellent care of her and saw to her every need. We are very grateful to them for their excellent care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Elmer Brown and LaVerne Obenauf and her husband of 53 years.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 4:00 - 8:00 at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home 215 N. Main Street, Wauconda, IL. On Thursday, July 13, 2023, prayers will start at the funeral home at 9:30 am, proceeding to Transfiguration Church, 348 W. Mill Street, Wauconda, IL. for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery.
