From The Bonners Ferry (Idaho) Herald, Aug. 30, 1901:
James Hobson, one of the first settlers of Genesee, is dead at the age of 71 years.
__________
James, his parents and four siblings emigrated from England in the very early 1840s. The family settled in Wisconsin, where two more children were born.

James married Harriett Raymond on 28 Oct 1855 in Metomen, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Three daughters were born to them in Wisconsin, Frances Ellen, Julia Lottie, Clara Eva. Their son George Henry was born in Minnesota. The pull of western lands enticed, so James and Harriett moved their family to Genesee, Latah County, Idaho where several of Harriett's siblings and their families had already settled. After James death, Harriet moved to Spokane, Spokane County, Washington to live with their son George and his family and be near other relatives. They eventually moved to Pleasant Prairie, a rural area that is a few miles northwest of the city of Spokane. In 1907, Harriett and her children were listed as beneficiaries in the will of Edwin Hobson, an unmarried brother of James.
