It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Charles Wayne Fesmire announces his passing on Tuesday, July 4th. He was surrounded by his family at the time. He was 90 years old.

He was born December 8, 1932 in Jackson, TN to Floyd McKinley and Bonnie Wynona (Frazier) Fesmire. He decided early in his life that he wanted to study for the ministry. He was a graduate of Lambuth College and Vanderbilt University where he received both his Master and Doctorate of Divinity.

Dr. Fesmire was a retired United Methodist minister having served in churches all over West Tennessee and West Kentucky, including the South Camden Circuit; St. John's Methodist, Memphis, TN; First Methodist Church, Gleason, TN; Stephenson Methodist Church, Memphis, TN; Scenic Hills UMC, Memphis, TN; First UMC, Selmer, TN; First UMC, Huntingdon, TN; First UMC Paris, TN; District Superintendent of the Dyersburg District of the Memphis Annual Conference; and his final appointment before retirement at Broadway UMC in Paducah, KY.

He also served on the Board of Governors; Executive Committee and building committee of the United Methodist Reporter; and for numerous years as the conference secretary and editor of the Annual Conference Journal. He served proudly on the Board for Methodist Healthcare Systems. Never one to sit idle in retirement, Dr. Fesmire turned his interests to gardening. After much study and work, he became a Master Gardener and enjoyed working in his garden and many others in the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Floyd Fesmire Jr. (Mildred) and sister, Jerleene (James) Miller.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Althea Jayne, of 64 years; his sister Sandra Kaye (William) Wolfe, and his brother Robert (Sharon) Fesmire; his three sons, David (Anita), Randal (Amy), Steven (Heather Keith); his grandchildren, Alyssa Fesmire, Alaina (Joey) Bivona, Adrienne (Azam) Bacchus, Scott (Melisa) Fesmire, Ryan Fesmire, Ethan (fiancée: Zenda Olson) Fesmire, and James Fesmire-Keith; and three great-grandchildren, Nadia Abuali, and Jane and Molly Fesmire.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, July 7th, 10:00 am at Ridgecrest Cemetery.

Wayne was a strong supporter of RIFA – Regional Inter-Faith Association in Jackson from its inception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to RIFA, 133 Airways Blvd., Jackson, TN 38301
