Ronald Lee Dingle, aka "Mr. D" or RLD, 80, passed away on July 1, 2023 at his home in Beavercreek, Ohio.

He was born February 15, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio and married Barbara from Centerville, Ohio in 1965. He worked for Ohio University teaching Recreation Studies in the school of Health and Human Services, where he served as the first Recreation Coordinator from 1966 -1999. He retired with Emeriti and continued to teach fall quarter until 2013. He left a strong impact on many as a respected and much-loved teacher, mentor, leader, co-worker and friend.

After attending Beavercreek High School, Ron graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1965 where he was a fraternity member with Phi Kappa Sigma. He received a Master of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts in physical education.

Ron was a cross-country runner and Eagle Scout in high school. He enjoyed many hobbies including model-railroads, woodworking and outdoor adventure pursuits such as kayaking, canoeing, backpacking and camping. He was a dedicated educator and taught outdoor education, including flora and fauna identification, taxidermy, wilderness survival skills, outdoor pursuits and providing comfort to students to enjoy the outdoors as well as assisted classroom elementary teachers in support of arts and crafts, physical education and experiential learning through teacher education workshops (make it - take it) and classes. He was a true craftsman who could build or repair almost anything, a deck master and a person who would give anything to help others in need. He was very involved with the Athens Hockey Association and provided transportation and managed equipment for the Ohio University club hockey team during its inception for many years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years Barbara Dingle, sister Cheri Schaffner (Rick), children, Scott Dingle, Andy Dingle (Jeanna), Amy Dingle (Cassie Lane) and grandchildren Cory Harris, Wesley Dingle, Kelsey Dingle, Kodi Dingle, Tyler Dingle, and Reagan Dingle as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Helen Dingle #19699918.

A memorial service will be held July 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Athens, Ohio at Athens First United Methodist Church with a celebration of life, reception and luncheon immediately following and a toast at 3:00 p.m. at Jackie O's Pub and Brewery.
